Don Crist says opening an auction house is just a natural extension of his real estate business. Crist will debut his new venture this Saturday with his first sale inside his auction house.

Crist’s auction house is located in Downtown Danville in the location of the former day old bakery at the corner of Walnut and Harrison Streets. The city’s parking garage is directly across the street for ample parking and on weekends the parking is even free.

The facility has 20,000 square feet, with 10,000 being used at this time. Crist said he leased the building two years ago and has used the office area off Walnut Street for his real estate business since that time. A large auction arena has theatre style seating for 116 people with room to add seating for several more. A large bay area off Harrison Stree allows Crist to keep his auction truck and trailer stored, as well as unload items for the in-house auctions.

The auction house is great for Crist’s clients who have items to sell, but not enough to have a sale at their homes.

Small estate sales can be put together with others to make a bigger, better sale, which is what Crist’s first sale will be Saturday.

“It’s also takes out the weather situation,” Crist said. “No matter the climate outside it will be comfortable inside.”

Crist said the site will also be excellent for those specialty sales, such as gun, coin and antique collections. He hopes to have one high quality Saturday sale a month with a specialty auction once a month.

Crist got his auctioneers license in 1991 from Missouri Auction School. He worked part-time for others and then started his own company, Crist & Associates Auction and Realty in 2000. Paul Sermersheim of Danville works with Crist as an auctioneer. Matt Myrick of Fairmount is one of Crist’s
